Viking Age Replica “Whorl” for Spinning Wool

Material: Solid bronze or solid sterling silver

Size: 6mm tall by 20mm wide

Weight: roughly half ounce or 12-15 grams

These solid cast whorls for spinning fine thread are cast directly from the original archaeological artifact. Unfortunately the original was made of lead, and due to that material’s toxicity to humans, I have changed the metal to solid cast bronze or sterling silver (your choice).

Also, due to weight differentials, I sized up these replicas from the original lead ones so they will perform the same way, but of course will not be toxic to you.

The original artifact was from a Rus’ Viking Age settlement from Latvia. Whorls from this area and other Viking settlements were often made of bone, wood, and stone as well as differing types of metals.

Beautiful whorl! It fits perfectly on my spindle and will be used to spin up lots of yarn in the future!

The whorl is a nice weight and feel, but the opening is very small. Much smaller than I would have expected for a spindle whorl. I can't use it with any of my spindles. It fits a 4.5 mm double pointed knitting needle, while my other whorls are closer to 8mm.
