These unique little viking hair/beard beads have been hand crafted and designed in house, every beard/hair bead is hand cut, tooled, dyed, sealed and hand sewn.
Featuring a hand stamped Yggdrasil design. This powerful symbol is far less known due to its discreet origin which can be found on the Skåne Mjolnir pendant commonly thought to originate from Sweden. These swirls are pretty unique compared to other designs during this time period and is said to be the roots/branches of the world tree Yggdrasil.
These beads are currently only available in Brown leather and have an average internal dimension of 12mm or just under a 1/2 an inch.
Price is for one bead, shipping will be combined when multiple are purchased to save you money.
Yggdrasil – The World Tree:
In Norse Mythology, the world tree is the center and connector of the cosmos. It is an ash tree whose branches and roots interact with the realms.
Features and events regarding Yggdrasil are discussed in Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál (of the Prose Edda), and in Grímnismál and Völuspá (of the Poetic Edda).
It is in this tree that Odin, in Hávamál, claims he sacrificed “himself to himself,” hanging for nine days and nights until he finds the runes. Some believe the name Yggdrasil itself translates linguistically to “Odin’s horse” because of this story.
Yggdrasil’s roots drink from the realms of Hel (place of the dead), Jǫtunheimr (land of the giants), and Ásgarðr (home of the gods).
Near Ásgarðr, it is nourished by the well of Urðr, who is one of the fate-weaving norns that determines the partial destiny of all.
Some of Yggdrasil’s inhabitants include the infamous dragon Níðhöggr, who gnaws at the roots near Hel, and a hawk/eagle Veðrfölnir, who resides at the top of the branches. A mischievous squirrel, Ratatöskr, runs up and down the tree delivering slanderous words to provoke a fight between them.
There are also four red-deer stags that eat the leaves and chew the branches of Yggdrasil. They are named Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr, Duraþrór. Some claim that these represent the four seasons, or simply the wind.
At the sound of Gjallarhorn, Yggdrasil will burn and fall as the events of Ragnarök begin.
